Larian has said it’s changing how it deploys Baldur’s Gate 3 patches following issues with the release of the game’s latest hotfix.The studio released the game’s fourth hotfix on Wednesday, but due to a build error causing new crashes, it was temporarily rolled back to fix the cause.The rollback left players unable to load saves they’d made following the update’s release, until it was redeployed again later in the day.In an update, Larian explained what had caused the issue, apologised for the inconvenience, and said it was making changes to ensure it doesn’t happen again.“Hotfix 4 went through a rigorous QA pipeline and was confirmed as a candidate for release yesterday. However, we triggered a rebuild of the version relatively last minute to change the version number,” it wrote.“The version that was cooked was unfortunately plagued by compiler corruption, which was causing certain exceptions that normally wouldn’t cause crashes to – you guessed it – cause crashes.“Since compiler issues like that are extremely rare, we weren’t prepared for it. We should’ve been. We messed up.”It added: “To avoid this from happening in the future, we’ll make sure that any change made to future version candidates – no matter how small, or innocuous – will always go through our full & comprehensive QA pipeline, which include a global in-house QA team, automated testing, unit tests, and save-game compatibility testing.”Larian said earlier this week that over 1,000 fixes and adjustments will be included in Baldur’s Gate 3’s first major patch.The studio is also working to introduce the ability for players to change the way that their character looks mid-game.Baldur’s Gate 3 will be released for PS5 on September 6 and for Xbox once Larian overcomes technical issues it’s encountered developing the game for Microsoft‘s consoles.
